I found a video on the web last week of a fellow making medieval arrows.  He had some interesting techniques, including, cutting feathers out by hand.  I was rather impressed and would like to give it a shot soon with some goose feathers I have.  He occasionally used modern tools and techniques but his results were good and he gave me some good ideas to try.  It was also better than reading a book as you could see him actually doing what he was talking about.
