I agree with Gregge. Having Kingdom Archery in July isn't the best plan - it's just too hot. We had several people two years ago who became seriously overheated and we are just lucky that it wasn't worse. Also, I don't think anyone had fun - and that is the point of what we do, I believe. It is supposed to be an archery shoot - not torture. Last year was better, because the site afforded much more shade, but still not pleasant.

We went to the July date several years ago because that was what was available, I believe, not because it was a preferred date.

One advantage, in years past, to having it before Pennsic was that the top finishers had that achievement to put on their archery "resume" for consideration by the whomever we were allied with in choosing their allied archers for the Archery Champions Shoot. Last year, with the change in structure of that shoot, this was not as critical as in the past. Assuming that last year's change will go forward (not guaranteed given the tendency for Pennsic rules to change from year to year), we could even look at a date after Pennsic.

Getting a date reserved on the Kingdom Calendar for Kingdom Archery may be a good idea - but what if the champion has a mundane commitment on the stated weekend? Do they not accept the position because that's the one week in a year that their company has a required conference? Maybe the one good site in their area isn't available on that weekend. Since the tradition is that the current champion runs the event, it may not be a good idea to pin us down to one weekend. On the other hand, it does help with planning, and it gives greater status to the tournament. It still doesn't guarantee you'll get Royals, though.
Just food for thought.
