and all of Atlantia I have report of a deed of service done in the name of<br>
Atlantia. On December 18th, 2011 a demonstration was held at the National<br>
Geographic Museum in concert with their exhibit “The Anglo-Saxon Hoard:<br>
Gold from England’s Dark Age.” We displayed various arts and crafts at<br>
table stations. At the fiber arts table we had a warp weighted loom,<br>
spinning, examples of period clothing, lucet braiding and more. We had a<br>
table with wassail and a period style stew that was so successful that we<br>
went through over 6 gallons of wassail and over 7 quarts of soup. Our<br>
calligraphy and game table was also very popular. Visitors were given small<br>
cards with their names written on them in Anglo-Saxon. At our brewing<br>
station visitors were treated to small samples of mead and given an<br>
introduction to brewing methods of the period. Across from this station was<br>
a set of tables devoted to the martial aspects of Anglo-Saxon life.<br>
Visitors got to handle and try on chain mail and helmets and ask questions<br>
about period warfare. Also at this table were beautiful examples of bone<br>
and wood carving including bowls, utensils, drinking horns and carved<br>
dolls. Yet perhaps one feature, supplying a souvenir, will be the most<br>
memorable for some. National Geographic graciously loaned us a life sized<br>
version of their iconic yellow bordered picture frame. Several demo<br>
participants generously searched their closets and provided garb and chain<br>
mail to be used for people to dress up. We clothed hundreds in garb and<br>
allowed them to take their pictures in the frame. One family stated they<br>
would use it for their holiday cards. The day after the demo I was informed<br>
by the coordinator that the number of visitors for the day was 794, of<br>
which the vast majority came through our demo. Although the demo was hosted<br>
by the Barony of Storvik it would have been impossible without the<br>
steadfast support and hard work so munificently given by fellow Baronies<br>
including Bright Hills, Highland Foorde, Ponte Alto, Tir-y-Don. Thank you<br>
to all that made this day a grand success!<br>
