Hello Lords, Ladies, Barons, Countesses and others from SCA branches in
Virginia,

My name is Jo Rasi, and I work with Washington Revels, a 30-year old
non-profit in the DC area. Our events are centered around seasonal and
traditional celebrations of music, dance and drama-- and I think our
programs would be a great fit for your community. Perhaps some of you
already know of us, and have attended our traditional May Revels, or a
*Christmas
Revels* in the past.

Auditions for our largest annual program -- *The Christmas Revels*-- are
the weekend of May22-23. A few weeks ago, I met a wonderful gentleman from
SCA at the Garden Fair at the National Arboretum (where we were performing
and dancing the Maypole) and he suggested the SCA community would love to
hear about the auditions for our upcoming medieval-themed show.

I'm sending this to all of you in the hopes that you might pass this notice
along to the local folks in your branch of the Kingdom of Atlantia. At this
time, we are auditioning for the show, but I'd love to also connect with
each one of you about the actual show, which takes place in December.

Seen by over 10,000 people each December, Washington Revels' flagship
production is a festive, fully-staged musical and theatrical pageant that
celebrates the Winter Solstice and the return of sun and light after the
"shortest day."

 This December, revel with a beloved king and his court, a mysterious
woodland queen, a pair of fools, and an unexpected guest. Enjoy rousing
traditional songs, seasonal carols, stately and spirited tunes on early
instruments, familiar rounds, and more -- like the eerily hypnotic Abbots
Bromley horn dance, a topsy-turvy "Lord of Misrule," and lively Morris and
sword dancing.

 While Revels uses a number of professional performers in its productions,
our volunteer choruses -- adults, teens and children -- are at the core. We
value the presence of new faces in our choruses every year. We also look
for a variety of ages, ancestries, sizes and personalities to create our
community on stage. People of diverse cultural backgrounds are encouraged
to audition. The ability to read music is helpful but not required. The
music will be in English.
