      Information on Ice Axe competitions

A)  Heavy Combat: Competitions shall include a Holmgang
variant.  Traditional round shields will be provided.
Bring a sword or an axe.  Other competitions per the
Marshalls choice.  Prize is a hand-forged bearded axe.

B)  Archery: This shoot will feature targets representing
various game animals.  Vitals will not be marked on the
target surface, but will be on the back. Prize is a dozen
forged bodkin point (pyramid) arrow heads.

C) Arts & Sciences - Topic is Personal Accessories.  These
are items that complete a persona's garb and gear.
Examples are belts, shoes, pouches, combs, writing
equipment, hats, socks, gloves, and jewelry.  Items need to
be constructed by entrant, not purchased and assembled.
(No shoe kits, no decorated hat blanks, no strings of
purchased necklace components.)  Documentation is basic;
cite a single source (book, artistic work, museum exhibit,
etc.)  Prize is a hand cast sterling silver "Ice Axe" pin.

D) Gaming Competition:  The gaming competition will consist
of a set of games selected by the Gamesmaster.  Prize is a
sterling silver shield necklace amulet.

E) Young Gentles Competition:  This will be an artistic
competition.  Materials will be provided.  Theme will be
announced on site.  Prize will be a copy of "The Vikings"
by Jackie Gaff.

F)  Bardic Competition:  Entry may be song, poetry, or
story.  Material can be original or memorized.  Judging is
by acclaimation, and the prize is an embossed metal mounted
drinking horn.  The horn will be passed for coins before
the competition.


Per the cook on 2/5/03:

Tentatively we will have flat bread with sweetened yogurt,
fish stew, roast pork with swollenburg sauce, peas+beans in
vinegar/pepper sauce, puree'd turnips and cheese, probably
another bean dish and something sweet for afters.
