Summer Greetings!****
 ****
July is one of our busiest months for spinning at Uniquities! I hope
you’ll plan to join us for at least one, or all, of the following
activities we have planned:****
 ****
It’s, once again, time for the *Tour de Fleece*! Join Team Uniquities
2012<http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/friends-of-uniquities/2187302/1-25#5>
for
three weeks of daily spinning, in concert with the *Tour de
France<http://www.letour.fr/us/index.html>
*, from Saturday, June 30, through Sunday, July 22! Whether you choose to
join our team on the Ravelry
group<http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/tour-de-fleece/2187303>,
or not, you’re welcome to participate in our Tour de Fleece team rally on
Saturday, June 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Bring your wheel, or
spindle, and join us as we decide what our individual goals will be for the
three weeks of spinning. ****
 ****
Guidelines (NOT RULES):****
** **
Spin every day the Tour rides, if possible. Saturday June 30th through
Sunday July 22nd. Days of rest: Tuesday July 10th and Tuesday July 17th.
(Just like the actual tour.)****
** **
Spin something challenging on the challenge day (usually the toughest high
mountain stage: we’ll figure out which one closer to the Tour).****
** **
Wear yellow on Sunday July 22nd to announce victory. Why not wear yellow on
any day you feel particularly successful? (Yellow is the color of the race
leader in the Tour - but here we are all ‘race leaders’)****
** **
Other colors if desired: Green (sprinter - think FAST), Polka-dot (climber
- as in uphill), and white (rookie)****
** **
The *Tour de Fleece* is a great opportunity to spin with intent. It can be
as simple as spinning for 15 minutes everyday, or spinning enough yarn to
complete a particular project. There is no charge for the team rally, but
e-mail <spinning at uniquitiesyarnshop.com> or call us at 703-242-0520 if
you’re planning on attending, so we can have enough chairs set up for
everyone. ****
** **
This year we’ve added a fun bonus for those interested in an *Authentic
“Tour de Fleece.”* We’ve compiled bags of locally sourced fiber from the
five main categories of sheep. Bags are $12.00, and include an
informational sheet, plus 1 oz. of fiber from the following breeds; Karakul
(dual-coated), Cotswold (longwool), Dorset (down), Tunis or Corriedale
(mediumwool), and CVM (finewool). Call us at 703-242-0520, or
e-mail<spinning at uniquitiesyarnshop.com>if you’d like to reserve a bag,
supply is limited!
Fiber bags will be ready for pick-up on Wednesday, June 27, if you aren’t
planning on attending the rally on June 30. Please note, the fiber is
clean, but hasn’t been carded or combed. ****
** **
Join us for another afternoon of fiber exploration at *Uniquities 7th Fiber
Farmers’ Market* on Saturday, July 21, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the
Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street, SE, Vienna, VA 22180. Our
market will feature a unique selection of yarn, roving, and other fiber
supplies from local vendors and fiber producers, admission is free, and
it’s air-conditioned!****
** **
We’re now taking registration for the *Spinner’s Circle* at the Fiber
Farmers’ Market. If you’d like to do more than shop at the market,
spinners of all levels are welcome to bring their wheels, drop spindles and
enthusiasm and join our Spinning Circle for the afternoon. Register by
calling 703-242-0520, the fee is $20.00 per person, and limited to 25
participants.****
** **
Lastly, we have *spinning workshops* available throughout the month of
July, and a new novelty yarn class. Workshops are a great opportunity to
get help perfecting a drafting or plying technique, try out a drum carder,
learn to use your wheel or drop spindle to its full potential, and be
inspired by other spinners!
Fee: $15.00/session; $40.00/3 sessions; $50.00/4 sessions, register by
calling 703-242-0520. ****
Wednesdays – 10:30 to Noon – July 11, July 18 and July 25****
Saturday – 10:30 to Noon – July 14****
* *
*New Class ***Racing Stripes and Auto Wraps****
*$25 + $10 supply fee*****
*Saturday, July 14th, 1pm to 2:30pm*****
In this hands-on workshop, learn two easy techniques to add some fun to
your handspun yarn. Using commercial novelty yarns, you can add glitz and
excitement to your handspun singles. These quick-to-master techniques, even
for beginners, will add some life to those ho-hum fibers languishing in
your stash bins! *Bring your wheel, 2 empty bobbins, a lazy kate if you
have one, and fiber you’d like to use for a base single, we’ll supply the
glitz!*****
Happy Spinning!****
