Subject: [Ponte Alto] The Baron's and Baroness' Pennsic Report
Hail Ponte Alto,
We, Jurgen and Flora, proud Baron and Baronness of glorious Ponte Alto, have returned from our sojourn to the great Pennsic War. Herein lies a report of the many wonderful things Ponte Alto and its varied and talented citizenry accomplished at Pennsic this year. If we have failed to include important happenings and events, or have failed to include gentles in any list whatsoever, please accept our imperfect memories and inform us so that we might correct our oversight and better inform the populace.
Court Reports:
At Atlantian Great Court at the Fort, Eleanor of Highland Foorde, a friend of Ponte Alto, was stunned when she was made a Lady by TRM Sinclair and Kari. Catherine Grace Fitzlewis, another friend, was put on vigil that evening then elevated to the order of the Laurel.
At Sinclair & Kari's Court in the Ponte Alto Encampment, James de Biblesworth was awarded an Opal, Gunnar Bjorklandr was awarded a Silver Osprey, Demian von Hessian was given his award of arms and Celia of Rosedale was called before Her Majesty Kari, where she was bestowed a Court Barony for her years of quiet service to the crown, our barony, and society.
At Ponte Alto Court, Mistress Cunian Beornhelm and Lord Gunnar both received Ponte de Ferros for their years of excellent fighting for the Barony. Mistress Cunian was then named captain of the guard for their Excellencies, Jurgen & Flora. Lady Rhiannon verch David ap Madyn was awarded a Ponte de Oro for her remarkable service and contributions to the Barony behind the scenes and Sian verch Gwillim ap Lewelin was awarded a Ponte d'Oro for her contributions as Pennsic Land Agent, as well as her multiple forms of baronial service across a range of offices and interests. Baron Max, Kat, and others were given beads of Ponte Alto in thanks for their efforts organizing and constructing Helm Mantles. Gordon Gunnarson was given a bead of Ponte Alto for his assistance over the past few months in setting up the Sunday Social Dayshade. Baroness Celia of Rosedale was awarded a Ponte d'Argent for her singing. Olaf the Tinkerer was given a Ponte d'Oro for his service throughout the Barony. James de Biblesworth accepted the award on his behalf.
Alric the Mad received a Silver Osprey at Friday's Battlefield court. Also at that battlefield court, Ponte Alto was awarded the Vexellum Atlantia, becoming the second unit so recognized, for their remarkable combat performance throughout the war amongst an array of outstanding efforts by the many other powerful fighting units of Atlantia. Go Fighters!
Heavy Combat Report:
Lucas von Aych moved into Ponte Alto a few months ago and has since been an active participant at all our local practices and our training sessions with Baron Max and Sir Strykar. At Pennsic, Lucas won the Knowne Worlde Newcomer's Armoured Combat Tourney. Lord Ru the Doghead came in third place, and our tremendous Ponte Alto newcomers comprised nearly one fifth of the total list!
Many warriors of Ponte Alto fought in defense of our ally, the East Kingdom, at this Pennsic. Unlike the vast bulk of the Atlantian Army, the Ponte Alto forces were made-up of novice fighters with two or fewer Pennsics. Here is the roll of those fighters:
Thomas of Calais
Guy Lestrange
Maxmillian van Halstern
Matthew Dredge
Alric the Mad
Sian verch Gwillim ap Lewelin
Ru the Doghead
Sophia van der Werken
Jurgen
Rowan of Needlewood
Demian
Drogo
Good Chris
Semjeh
Aelfwyn
Brun Corbin (Ben)
Ithan from An Tir
Aesa (Spelling)
Elizar
Cunian
Gunnar
Lucas
Kalara
Injured Reserve:
Grethferth
Kat Mahoney
Owen
On-field Logistics:
Lauren
Jamie
Shaheen
Disago
Rhiannon
Owen
Brun Corbin
Flora
Kat
Rowan
Brigid
Guy, Max, Felix, and Ru were amongst the twenty-six Atlantians selected to fight as primaries in the allied Champions Battle. Felix was one of the two Atlantian Heroic Champions.
Helga Gunnarsdottir fought in various youth combat tournaments and battles.
The Northern Army (of Darkness) of Atlantia with Ponte Alto as a key foundation unit played a major role in the Gates of Rome battle and an even more significant role in the woods battle, holding the Cathedral throughout the entire battle. Ponte Alto's forces remained intact for the second woods battle as Atlantia fought a challenge with Aethelmarc. Kudos to Lady Sophia, our newly authorized fighter who valiantly battled through both battles and fought through the second with a bloodied face. We held the center right of the town in the Town Battle against incredibly superior numbers, nearly fighting back to the important center banner at the end of the battle. His Grace, Duke Cuan asked Baron Max to lead the entire Atlantian Army for the Mountain Pass battle, where Atlantia proved instrumental in getting our Allied forces close to a victory against overwhelming odds. Though Ponte Alto's unit continuously provided outstanding service to King and Kingdom, it was in the Bridge Battle where we shined most brilliantly... proving to be the pivotal force winning two of the three Bridge Battles by moving from Atlantia's bridge to the bridge controlled by the Southern Army of the East Kingdom at critical moments to force a breakthrough on their bridge and lead the Eastern forces into the Midrealm backfield -- following which Atlantia's bridge was also broken and the Midrealm forces routed. Ponte Alto's critically timed and implemented charges into the Midrealm broke the bridge both times and led to Eastern victory. Vivat Ponte Alto, and Vivat Atlantia!
Ceremony Report:
Sir Guy brought several men and women at arms into his Household. This list includes Rowan, Sian, and Semjeh (Bad Chris aka SlimJim). Additionally, Guy squired Lord Ru the Doghead before a large assembly of Peers, Royals, and Populace at Monday's Gates of Rome battle.
Archery Report:
Many Pontoons shot archery war points, some of our pontoons joined His Majesty Sinclair. Brigid, Flora, Miles, Nuala, & Geoffrey and others shot at the range.
Breccan and his sister Ceridwen both competed in youth archery. Brennan came in 4th place in thrown weapons, and 1st place in the 14-17 y.o. archery competition. Ceridwen took 4th place in the 10-13 y.o. archery competition.
Fencing Report:
Dominic's team won the Atlantian five man rapier tourney.
Marcellus and Dominic fought in the rapier champion's tourney.
Belfebe received the token of courtesy from the Academie d'Espee.
Here's the list of fencers who support our ally the East Kingdom by fielding for rapier battles:
Belfebe
Jurgen
Guy
Hadrurus
Shenfin
Marcellus
Catalina
Edwin of Warwick
Thomas Schribner
Flairthi (Baron of Stierbach, but fielded with Ponte Alto)
Alric the Mad (fielded with a separate unit)
Service Report:
Flora & I would also thank the many service-minded individuals within the Barony. Allasondrea, Celia, and Livia were all executive trolls. Cassandra, Millicent, and Delphina all volunteered time to help support Pennsic Troll.
The first Thursday of Pennsic, Ponte Alto took the evening shift safety patrol, bringing 10 volunteers to patrol and dispatch. Kalara, Jurgen, Sian, Rhiannon, Good Chris, Margaret Roe, Kat Mahoney, Ru, Marlin, and Disago all helped keep Pennsic safe.
The Childrens Fete was supported by many Pontoons: Flora, Jurgen, Brigid, Brennan, Lucas and various House Lionskeep members.
Lastly, Ponte Alto helped Atlantia and Her Majesty Kari by providing guard duty at the Atlantian Spiked Party. Marcellus, Belfebe, Catalina, Hadrurus, Shenafin, Margharite, and Brigid all helped guard the party. Belfebe, Catalina, Marlin, and Flora all took turns trying to keep up with Kari's long strides as Royal Retainers.
A&S Report:
James Biblesworth displayed his projects in the A&S Display. Caemfind, a friend of Ponte Alto, also displayed her projects.
James, Katharine, and Luce all taught classes through Pennsic University.
The Ravenstreet encampment received a ribbon from the Atlantian Heraldic Walking Tour.
Edward de Clare, Sir Strykar, and Baron Max attended the WMA in SCA meeting with many notable WMA scholars seeking to help enhance the role of the study of historic martial arts at Pennsic and throughout the SCA.
Been here lately Report:
Special congrats to both Sir Stryker and Sir Grethferth, who both attended Pennsic after more than ten years of absence.
