Salve tutti!
I don't think I've seen this forwarded to the baronial list yet, so here it
is, FYI.

Subject: [MR] KASF Persona Competition Rules
To: Merry Rose <atlantia at atlantia.sca.org>

I've had requests for formats other than Word, so figured this is the
easiest way to send this around. Please crosspost as necessary to your
local lists. :-)

Check the schedule when you get there for confirmation on set-up and
breakdown times. There will be lots going on...

Thanks,
Susanna

Information for entrants:
1. The Pentathlon is for artisans 18 years and older. Entrants must
display five (5) items (no more, no less) from at least three (3) of the
competition categories. (Categories are listed below)
2. The Triathlon is for artisans 17 years old and younger. Entrants
must
display three items. These entries can be from at least two (2) of the
competition categories. (Categories are listed below)
3. Each of the entries (five for Pentathlon, three for Triathlon) must
be
directly connected to the persona of the entrant's choice – could the
entries have been owned, made, consumed or performed by that persona? The
five items will be displayed together, and the entrant must include
somewhere a brief description of the chosen persona.
4. The 'persona' does not need not be the entrant's regular SCA
persona.
Only one persona per entrant.
5. Be sure to come back after court to get your judging forms and
comments.
6. We request (but don't require) you to pre-register: it will help
have the
right people to provide good feedback and reasonable judging, as well as the
right space available to you.
7. Please keep your display to the size of half a table: 4 feet x 3
feet.
If you need floor space (rather than table space) please coordinate this
with the event staff.
8. Performance entries will be judged at time at place.
9. Time to be by your items: set up by … pick up by …?
10. We invite you to be by your display between x time and y time to
interact directly with the judges and others who may want to hear about your
items.
11. Items will be judged on Documentation, Authenticity, Complexity,
Workmanship, and Creativity. Prizes will be given based upon the highest
total score. Prizes are being donated by members of the Order of the
Laurel, and will be on display in the hall.

Suggestions
1. Make your documentation "tight." Make it easy and fast for a judge to
find:
- What location and time frame is this from?
- What source makes the artisan think so?
- How is this item similar or different from period items?
- Did the artisan use period materials and techniques, and if not, why
not?
Documentation for an item should be no longer than 1 page (plus a list of
sources), because otherwise the judges may not have time to read it!

2. Consider providing a PHOTO of you with your entry. We all struggle with
keeping names and faces (and really cool research!) connected, and a photo
will help people to approach you and talk to you about your work.
