Special Event at
The Textile Museum Shop this Weekend

Suzanis from Uzbekistan Available for Sale

Get an early start on your holiday shopping at The Textile Museum Shop this
weekend!

Join textile collector Gerard Paquin on Saturday, September 23 at 2:00 pm
for a special lecture on suzanis of Uzbekistan. Following the talk and again
on Sunday, September 24 from 1 - 4 pm, enjoy the opportunity to purchase
your own suzani from a selection available for sale.

Weavers from the cities and towns of Uzbekistan had largely abandoned the
use of natural dyeing by the early 20th century. However, independendence
from the Soviet Union in 1991 prompted a return to traditions of the area,
including the renewed use of natural dyeing and the production of suzanis,
embroidered textiles native to the region.

The suzanis available for sale this weekend are hand-woven and
hand-embroidered by women from Uzbekistan, and include designs traditionally
used in the 18th and 19th centuries. Natural dyes made from various plants
and insects, combined with silk warp and cotton weft threads, give a visual
richness to these beautiful textiles. Each piece varies slightly in color,
size and design.

Don't miss this opportunity to find a truly one-of-a-kind textile to add to
your collection!
