Subject: [Announcements] Position Available: Press Officer of the SCA, Inc

Position Available: Press Officer of the SCA, Inc

The Vice President of Operations is currently accepting applications for the position of Press Officer of the SCA Inc. This is an unpaid position requiring approximately 10-15 hours per week.

The Press Officer (modernly the Assistant VP of Media Relations) is a Deputy of the Society Seneschal (VP of Operations of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.)

The Press Officer (and its various kingdom and war deputies) works with any vehicle of communication used by the modern press: Radio, Television, Newspaper, and online publications of the modern world to proactively influence the public outside of the SCA, using an internationally coordinated and consistent effort of media contact, with the goal of gaining positive image, creating name recognition, and facilitating interaction between our members and resources in the modern world.

Primary duties are to create and maintain basic media kits for use by regional deputies and assist where needed in their campaigns, coordinate with all Kingdom Media officers and media deputies for events over 2,000 attendees, field inquiries from national and international (major) media and documentarians, and prepare and deliver any and all necessary statements to be used by the SCA, Inc, in the event of a major negative publicity event.

Additionally, the Press Officer submits quarterly reports to the Society Seneschal, and must be available to make an annual presentation to the Board of Directors at a quarterly Board Meeting, typically held over a Friday and a Saturday. The Press Officer may be expected to perform other duties as assigned by the Board, Society Seneschal, or SCA President.

Qualifications for the position include excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently to prioritize and delegate tasks and meet deadlines, strong computer skills, ability to organize a staff, experience in a modern business setting, organizational ability and problem-solving skills are a must. Experience in a modern publicity firm and prior experience at the Corporate level of the SCA are desirable, but not required.

As a great deal of SCA and Press business occurs via the internet, familiarity and basic skills with a computer, MS Office software (such as Microsoft Word and Excel) printers, and e-mail are required. The successful applicant must have reliable access to electronic mail and a printer. A fax machine is helpful, but not necessary.

The Media Policy may be found in the Seneschal's Handbook (Oct 2005) - Appendix D, or at www.sca.org/docs/mediapolicy.pdf

Hard copies of résumés (both professional and medieval, including offices held and awards received) must be sent to the attention of the Board at the SCA Corporate Office, P.O. Box 360789, Milpitas, CA 95036-0789. Résumés must be received by January 31, 2007. Electronic copies must also be sent to seneschal at sca.org Questions regarding this position may be directed to George Reed, Vice President of Operations of the SCA Inc. Mr. Reed may be reached by phone at 513-292-2660, or via e-mail at seneschal at sca.org.
