[Ponte Alto] A game for Ponte Alto

As was mentioned at the last Baronial meeting, Jurgen was devising an
interesting game to amuse us all in the run up to Pennsic. Well, through
the brainstorming and machinations of many, that game is finally taking
shape....

UNDER THE BRIDGE will hopefully provide you with hours (indeed, days, weeks
and months) of entertainment with your fellow Barony members. The goal of
the game is to have fun. The most important rule of the game is to HAVE
FUN. There will be secrets, subterfuge, influence-peddling, plotting,
thuggery, and assassination. There will be acts of great virtue, honor and
duty. There will be grave sins. There will be justice. There will be
travesty. If you haven't the stomach to gladly be part of all of these
things, then we beg you not to play. If you decide to play and discover you
are no longer having fun, you can stop at any time.

The game is a role play reminiscent of the intrigue of the Renaissance
Italian city-states, designed to inspire the participants to creative
scheming, and open to anyone in Ponte Alto who wishes to play. First of all,
let it be known that while this game is structured to provide a great deal
of fun, there are aspects of it which will not seem fair. Justice will not
always prevail. Participants will not start out as equals in power or
resources. But rest assured that everyone has an opportunity to win, and
even those that seem to have all the advantages can be vulnerable.
Everyone, as the adage goes, has his price.

The Scene

Imagine that Ponte Alto is like the great Italian city states of the
Renaissance - with beautiful and powerful nobles, talented craftsmen
organized into guilds, and plenty of corruption, streetfighting, rivalry and
assassination to go around.

The Objective

Mostly the objective is to HAVE FUN. But alongside all that fun, we hope to
inspire people to deeds of skill, virtue and vice that are worthy of legend
- or at the very least, which make for good "schtick" and fireside stories
at Pennsic. And in order to help such inspiration along, we've created
prizes for the participants who perform the greatest deeds and provoke the
greatest stories. The game will culminate at Pennsic with an evening of
stories, upon which winners will be judged and prizes awarded. While you do
not have to be at Pennsic to play, you probably have to be at Pennsic war
week in order to win. This should not deter you, as there will be plenty of
fun to be had *before* Pennsic.

Interested in Playing?

Gameplay is currently scheduled to begin after the next Barony Meeting
(although people may choose to join the game AFTER that time, there are some
goodies prepared for those who choose to sign up early). While the rules of
the game are still under construction, you can get a peek at them by
emailing Jurgen at jcfrench at mac dot com. In order to keep the traffic on
this list light, there is a special Yahoo Group forming to handle
game-related messages and notices. Participation is limited to those who
either (a) play with Ponte Alto Barony, (b) camp with Ponte Alto at Pennsic,
or (c) by special permission of the Powers That Be.

If you want to play, (or have questions) send an email to me (scalucia at
cox dot net) or Jurgen (jcfrench at mac dot com)

Let the Game Begin!!!

Lucia & Jurgen
