Greetings to all,

Is everyone aware of the various and wonderful competitions and displays being held at Ponte Alto's Tournament of Love and Beauty on February 18 in Leesburg, VA (NoVa)?

  A&S Activities:
Please have entries signed in by 12:30 PM.
There will be a general A&S competition for any items (including those which might not be complete) which fit the theme of "Love and Beauty". There will also be room for an open display of any items that also fit the theme.

In addition, there are a great many other competitions you can enter:

The Baron and Baroness of Ponte Alto will be seeking to fill the position of Baronial Artisan and Baronial Bard

Lady Millicent Chandler, Ponte Alto's current Baronial Bard, is sponsoring the Bardic Champion's Competition. The theme of the bardic competition will be "love" and/or "beauty". Documentation is not required; period style is preferred. Entrants will sign up at Troll to receive a token as designation of their intention to compete. Performances will take place between fight rounds in the barn (after all, performers need an audience!). Their Excellencies will announce their new Bardic Champion during the evening court. For further information, please contact Lady Millicent Chandler (bard AT pontealto.atlantia.sca.org).

Lady Marsaili Johnston of Lockwood Moss, Ponte Alto's current Baronial Artisan, is sponsoring the Baronial Artisan's Competition. The theme is "Tokens of Love" with a theme of Love and/or Beauty. Works in progress will be accepted, and documentation is required. Entrants should sign in with the A&S competition and should indicate on their form if they are interested in competing for Baronial Artisan.

Baroness Elspet Byndelase (Elspet AT gmail.com) is sponsoring a "Best 15th Century Persona Accessory" contest, and documentation is required. These should be common items that might have been used by the person whose clothes you are wearing. Can be any item worn and/or used by a person living in Europe in the 15th Century that is not part of their main dress or clothing (i.e. not part of their "suit of clothes"). Items are limited to those that are either attached to or able to be carried comfortably by a person. Some examples are: jewelry, bags, belts, shoes, trade tools, personal hygiene items, lighting, eating utensils, head-coverings, toys, money, writing implements, livery insignia, games, books, scientific instruments, gloves. Extra points will be awarded to entrants that "wear" the item in context and can speak about its relationship to their persona.

Lady Wulfwyn Aelfwines (snoleopard4 AT aol.com) is sponsoring a "Best Use of Heraldry" contest, and documentation is NOT required. Lady Wulfwyn will be judging those who display exemplary field heraldry (in either fighting discipline), as well as the individual who displays their pride in their heraldry through their garb, accessories, and accountrment.

Lady Renata will be sponsoring a Scribal competition with the following parameters:

Scrolls should have a theme of love, beauty, and chivalry
Scrolls must be taken from the current backlog of the Signet (within the last three months). Please contact the Signet's office for an assignment if you are not currently working on any. Taking an assignment without notifying the Signet causes confusion throughout the College of Scribes.
Documentation is required (it doesn't need to be extensive).
Scrolls should, as much as possible, relate to the individual who is receiving it (such as, reflecting their persona's period, possibly incorporating elements of their arms, favorite colors, etc.)
Prizes will be awarded in a Novice category and in an Advanced category.

More information about the event can be found here: http://pontealto.atlantia.sca.org/tolab.php

Please cross-post this to appropriate lists.

We hope to see many of you there!

  Regards,

  Lady Courtney
