Bill and I are back from Land Grab. Land Grab week at Pennsic is getting
busier and busier. Some merchants were ready to open yesterday!
There are some important issues that have developed at our new block N30.
1. We have many yellow jackets. This is the first time in 6 years at Pennsic
that I have seen this. We have set several traps but everyone will to need
to take precautions.
If you are allergic, bring a few epi pens. Our Land Agent Shenafin has
several with her.The bees are not particularly aggressive but there are a
lot of them. We are also camping next to Baroness Johanna of Storvik who is
a registered nurse. She also has epi pens. In addition everyone should pack
an antihistamine.
Do not leave any food or drink uncovered. Check all drinks and food before
you take a sip or a bite.
If you have been stung, scrape out the stinger and apply ice. At any time
after the bite, if you have trouble breathing or feel your throat swelling
get help immediately. Ask someone to go to the North Gate which is close by
and have them radio the Chirurgeons for help. Do not try and go yourself,
you may not make it. If there is a vehicle and driver nearby have them drive
you to the Chirurgeons Tent.
2. Land in our new block is prone to flooding especially in the left rear
corner. We have tried to site most tents away from this area. However, we
cannot be certain you will remain unflooded in any portion of the site. Make
sure that you pack a ground tarp.
We have serious sump issues. The ground is very hard with lots of clay and
rocks. Our sump is not as deep as I would like and drainage is slow. Use
minimal water at all times. We may have to eliminate the sink and try and
dig another overflow sump during War Week. If anyone can bring a shovel let
me know. Ours broke digging the sump.
In addition the ground can be very uneven in spots. We are filling in as we
find deep depressions. Check your tent and surrounding area before you set
up. You can fill with dirt from the sump or bring a bag of mulch.
We are asking all campers to bring an extra gallon of water for the cooler
in the Common tent as we want everyone including any guests that stop by to
be well hydrated. Cups are available to guest only. All campers should use
their own mug.
Thursday evening is Baronial Court and Open House for all Pontoons. We will
also be hosting Court for The Barony of Dun Carraig. Bring drink or food to
share. There will be a fire and hopefully a Bardic as well.
That's all for now. I am home until Friday evening if there are any
questions or concerns.
