TrimTex, one of the world's largest manufacturer of trims, many very
suitable for SCA use, will be having it's annual warehouse sale on Monday
June 21st. This is an extrodinary sale. Many of the trims that normally
retail for about 50 cents to 10 dollars a yard will probably be priced
more like 50 cents to 10 dollars a BOLT (with typically 10 to 100 yards on
the bolt).

Trimtex has a very basic website, http://www.trimtex.com, but it does
not contain much detail about the styles of trim they make.
A better way is to go to your local JoAnn's (unfortunately they don't seem
to have their trims online) and look at the trims. About 1/3 of the trim
stock at the average JoAnn's is from Trimtex. Just look at the brand name
on the bolt/roll. Another way to get an idea of what is likely to be
available is to go to one of Storvik's Thurday sewing nighs and ask Brenna
to show you her trim collection, much of which was acquired at previous
Trimtex sales.

Another thing to note about the Trimtex sale is that there are two parts
to it. One part is held outside in the parking lot, with the stuff that
they have cleaned out from the back corners of the warehouse and has the
types of prices I mentioned. There are a lot of one of a kind items here,
some trial runs, partial bolts, etc., but once they are sold, they are
sold. The other part of the sale is inside in their normal factory outlet
building. There they sell everthing in Trimtex's current line, and are
much less likely to sell out of a particular style. The outlet is open
year round and typically sells at about 10-20% off of retail. On the day
of the sale, they cut somewhere around another 10-20% off their normal
outlet prices. So the prices inside are actually pretty good, but not
anywhere near as good as the prices that you will find in the outside part
of the sale.

Also, there are a number of other stores of SCA interest along the route
to/from Trimtex including:

Grizzly Industrial, http://www.grizzly.com, wood & meatalworking tools
(including anvils)
The Leather Factory, http://www.leatherfactory.com, leather and
leatherworking tools & supplies (including copper rivets)
Harbor Freight, http://www.harborfreight.com, surplus tools and supplies
(random, but cheap)

TrimTex is located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, about 4-5 hours from DC.
Since the sale is early on a Monday morning and the best stuff typically
lasts less than an hour or so, the best approach is to drive up on Sunday
the 20th and find a cheap hotel for the night so you can be there when the
sale starts.

While I already have a pretty good stock of trims from previous years
sales, I am once again considering making the pilgrimage. Is anyone else
interested in making the trip? I always love helping other people spend
their money.

Nina
