Thanks for the opportunity to clarify: Being an SCA event is less about charging a fee than about the announcement. You may have noticed that the Acorn has words to the affect (I don't have it here to quote) that it IS an official publication of the SCA, and local newsletters are required to have the statement that they are NOT an official publication of the SCA. THERE is the difference! Publishing a fighter practice in a local newsletter does not make it an event - it is not an official SCA publication. Publishing a war practice announcement in the Acorn COULD make it an event, if it meets the rest of the requirements for being an event (run according to SCA rules, sponsored by a branch, sanctioned by the seneschal, etc). Beyond that, there might be some question as to whether an event has a complete announcement. The Acorn has "requirements" for an announcement (time, date, address, etc.). Only when we consider it an event by the above standards, does NMS come into play. If there is a required fee to attend the event, the NMS rules apply. Anne
