Ok, typically I'm a lurker on the Merry Rose, but I have been inspired by
Lord Kwellend-Njal's comments to speak out.<br>

My lord, your sort of commentary is the kind that makes an officer not
want to be an officer. I'm sure that wasn't your intention, but
just the same, you are criticizing someone who has an unenviable job for
trying to do it the best way they know how. And over what?
Trying to figure out how to keep the OP straight in a period
fashion? If her use of modern names makes her monumental task a bit
easier, then I say more power to her. If you think her use of
modern names is inappropriate in this "game side" issue, let me
ask you this. Do you take issue with her use of electronic
communication in the execution of her responsibilities? Would you
take the same issue with the MOL/Earl Marshal's use in authorization and
marshalling database issues?<br>

Some things that we do in the Society are just easier done with modern
assistance. No, I'm not talking about building chairs vs. buying
modern ones. I'm not talking about using plastic legs instead of
steel ones. Those are different matters. She's just trying to
eliminate dups on the OP. <i>As a service to us</i>. That's
all. It's not something to get into a huff about. <br>

There is a camp at Pennsic that in the past I have visited a lot, and
this year I actually camped in. One of their standing rules is, if
you complain about the way someone is doing a chore, it's now your
job. Perhaps you could considering petitioning for the position
after Mordrea steps down for a well deserved rest. Then you could
handle the office in as period a manner as you would like. <br>
