Well, I for one, am not real interested in signing a petition that states
that I will *sue the SCA in California's civil court* in order to force the
total replacement of all members of the BoD and request that the state
appoint provisional directors until the Kingdoms chose a new way of handling
things. Did anyone really read this thing? All members of the BoD must
resign immediately and the "Pennsic Accord" be enacted at the same time, or
*I, the undersigned, WILL SUE*?!?
Unto the Fair and Learned Baroness of Marinus, Greetings!
I'm not very impressed with the petition that Aveloc put on the website. He's throwing too many ideas and demands out at once. I personally agree with all of the demands, but realize that most folks will be put off by that whole last paragraph.
As to the timing of the BoD's actions, you need to know that Aveloc was in full tilt political mode at Gulf Wars last year attempting to gain support for the ideas put forth in what became the Pennsic Accord. The idea was formulated and wheels began to turn well over a year ago. He spoke to many people about his concerns with the power of the BoD and the lack of "checks and balances". Aveloc is charismatic, energetic, and fully capable of spearheading a movement for change within the SCA. Cutting the head off the snake just seems a bit too tidy for me...
Aveloc can be a pompous, arrogant jerk. Mostly he's a really friendly, outgoing guy who gets a wee bit too focused on certain things from time to time. I'm not in a position to defend him from all the things he's done or been accused of. I simply know that the stories told to the board regarding events at Gulf Wars were far from the incidents that I was a part of. If one set of charges is false, I am willing to entertain that others might well be also. Add to that the fact that a great deal of the "witnesses" to his heinous acts are all from the same household and I think it is easy to make a case that perhaps the investigation, on the whole, was just a little biased.
