And you are selling these where? to whom? And why do you think you are not good enough to rate $8/hr.? Give a choice of materials at different prices. Yes people will pay these prices. If you wish you may take some of the price in trade goods to lower the price for students etc but make them pay. they will value it more. I might even buy one if you have one big enough.
Well currently i'm selling them to non-SCAdians but i've had some requests from SCAdians on some of my group email lists (like this one). I'm really just toying with the idea. I think that yes, I'm good enough for $8/hr but i suppose it strikes me as crazy to pay $80 for a shirt (even if its linen and has french seams) b/c i know i can make it for $10. :) This is my first time talking to professionals like this-- normally when i sell my things i sell it to friends for material cost or just a little above. I do it because i love it, not because i need the money. i'd like to make some profit (i'd like some nice silk for my boyfriends new doublet and trunk hose ;-) ) but the $80-$100 range just shocked me a little. Since i'm doing this because i love to sew, and because i love to share my gift, i don't see any NEED to charge that much-- i want people to buy my shirts and i want them to feel comfortable doing so. And i want people who can't afford the really expensive stuff to still be able to get good quality, nice looking garb from me. I think that i will end up chargeing between $40 and $45 because that seems to be the general idea of what is appropriate.
