Greetings everyone from the autocrat of the Tourney of the Golden Moon!

As most of us are still in awe as to the events of the past day, we also
question ourselves, "What can I do to help?" This weekend at the Tourney
of
the Golden Moon there will be a jar at Troll for donations to the Red Cross
to help the victims of the tragedy. It is my understanding that our SCA
friends in DC and in NYC are all accounted for and safe! If you know
otherwise, please let me know!!

Also, on site is a lovely outdoor chapel. On both Friday and Satuday
evenings, candles will be lit in memory of the victims. Some candles will
be available, but feel free to bring your own.

There is a target archery range, and we do have a marshal, so bring your
bows and arrows.

Remember the prizes for the marshal activites this year will be treasure
chests. All fighters are encouraged to bring a prize to add to the chests.

There will be one for heavy and one for rapier.

Also, please NO PERIOD SWIMMING! The caretakers house is on the lake.
TOURNEY OF THE GOLDEN MOON
September 14 – 16, 2001
Canton of Hawkwood
Camp Daniel Boone; Canton, NC

The Canton of Hawkwood was relaxing after a hard summer's work. The harvest
is in, the livestock are fat and the weather is pleasant BUT VIKINGS ARE
AFTER OUR SHEEP!!! Come help us defend MacGregor farm from those murderous,
treacherous Danes!!! And if that wasn't bad enough, the Brotherhood of the
Flaming Jackasses are up to no good again. Rumor has it they will return
this year in numbers. A plea goes out to all duelists, please help defend
the honor of the beautiful ladies of this realm against these notorious
rogues.

FIGHTING: Heavy and Rapier will alternate running the cattle raid/barn
scenario. Each will require teams of four or five fighters and an archer.
Each team will get a chance to both attack and defend. Team sizes may
change in accordance with the number of participants.

A&S COMPETITIONS: There will be three categories for competition.
1. Best use of wool. This category is wide open, do with it what you will!
As long as it is wool, we'll take it. This could include spinning, weaving,
sewing, embroidery, garb, accessories, decorations, raw materials, anything
made from wool at all.

2. Best use of the color gold. Anything incorporating the color gold is
allowed into this category (illumination or the scribal arts would be good
ideas, but anything gold or the heraldic equivalent yellow will do!)

3. Performing arts. The criteria for this competition will be the best
adaptation of a medieval piece for a modern audience. This can be any type
of performing art, be it a song, poetry reading, dramatic performance,
dance, storytelling, what have you. Everyone wants to encourage more
medieval bardic performances, but the performers also want to be
entertaining to a modern audience. All entries in all categories will be
judged on a their authenticity (please be able to provide documentation)
and
skill level. We will also provide space for an open display for all Arts
and
Sciences so bring whatever piece you are proud of, or works in progress to
display and get feedback on.

BARDIC CIRCLE: Many and wondrous performers, revelers, bards, dancers,
drummers, chanters, mummers, storytellers, and yarn weavers shall be
attending this year and mayhaps we can coerce them into performing for us.
A
pass-play format seems to work well.

THE FEAST: The Feast is limited to 150 gentles. Additionally, due to the
size of the hall, we will be able to allow off-board seating for another
100
gentles. Off-board seating availability will be on a first come, first
serve
basis. The head cook is Lord Thorgrimr inn Kyrri, 136 LaManche Drive, Apt
E, Asheville, NC 28805; (828) 296-9969. thorgrimr_inn_kyrri@hotmail.com.
NLT 9pm. Please contact him with any dietary concerns or allergies.

MERCHANTS: Please contact Lady Katherine Wulfesege (Denay Jones) at
kate-rand@sprynet.com with your space requirements. You will need to
supply
your own tables and/or day shades.

THE SITE: The site will be Camp Daniel Boone, 3647 Little East Fork Road,
Canton, NC 28716. This is a Boy Scout Camp located in the scenic Blue
Ridge Mountains. The site will open at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14
and will close at 11:00 on Sunday, September 16. It is a lovely mountain
site with plenty of space for primitive camping. There are plenty of
camping
platforms and numerous Adirondack cabins (only 3 walls) that can sleep 4
people. There will not be assigned camping sites; it will be a first come
first serve. Also, please note, the bathhouses are open-air and unisex.

SITE RESTRICTIONS: No pets allowed. This is a DRY site. Please keep ALL
alcohol off site. If caught with alcohol, you will be asked to leave the
premises (with no refund). We will have a Site Constable and his deputies
to enforce this Boy Scout Camp rule.

THE COST: The cost of the event is $12.00 On-Board/On-Site; $10.00
On-Board/Off Site or Off Board/On Site and $6.00 Off Board/Off Site.
Children between 12 and 8 are half price. Children under 8 are guests of
the
Canton, but we must have a reservation for them. If you wish confirmation,
please include a SASE, SAS postcard or an email address. Send reservations
to the autocrat. Make checks payable to “Canton of Hawkwood/SCA, Inc.”
REMEMBER: The only reservation is a paid reservation.

AUTOCRAT: Lady Marryyn of the Black Oak Grove (Mindi Bishop), 6259 NC 261,
Bakersville, NC 28705, (828) 688-9616, NLT 11PM,
email: marryyn@hotmail.com

DIRECTIONS: Take your best route to I-40 towards Asheville. Turn off at
exit #31, Canton. From the west, turn right off the exit ramp; from the
east, turn left (pass McDonald's). Go 1 mile (just past Subway) and get in
the right lane, cross the bridge then turn right onto 215 South. Follow
215-S carefully, as you will stay on it almost all the way to Camp,
however,
the names of the roads will change. At about 0.8 miles, you will turn left
at the stoplight. Then, still following 215-S, go 0.4 miles and turn right
at 2nd light, just past Phillips 66 station. Follow this road 0.1 miles as
it veers right onto Old River Road. Continue on 5.4 miles, at the end turn
right. At this point, follow the signs as you literally go around the
Bethel
Complex. At the stoplight intersection make a right turn. After about 3
miles, turn left onto Love Joy Road. Follow this 2.3 miles, then turn left
onto Lake Logan Road. Follow this 1.8 miles to make a left onto Little E
Fork Road. Go 2 miles to the fork and bear to the right. Continue 1.4 miles
to the entrance of Camp Daniel Boone. Follow signs to Troll.
