<BR>Marion University in Florence, SC. Site opens and registration begins at
<BR>8am, with classes running from 9am to noon and 1pm to 5pm.

<BR>
<BR><U>Thrown Weapons Set-up and Rules</U> - (THL Lord Volgaar Thorgulsson)
<BR>
<BR><U>Basic Shyrts & Chemises</U> (2 hours) - (Baroness Julianna Fiorentini and Lady
<BR>Lina St. Albans) Learn how
<BR>to construct a basic chemise or shyrt without use of a pattern. You may
<BR>watch and learn, or you can
<BR>actually make a chemise on-site. Bring 6to 8 yards of pre-washed cotton
<BR>fabric, matching thread, a
<BR>tape measure, and scissors. There will be several sewing machines set up for
<BR>general use, but you
<BR>may bring your own if you prefer.
<BR>
<BR><U>Beginning Middle Eastern Dance</U> - (Lady Kisaiya Zingara) Brief overview of the
<BR>history of
<BR>middle eastern dance, its place in the SCA and how to do it.
<BR>
<BR><U>Natural Dyeing</U> (Favour Project Part 1) - (Lady Bridget O'Shay) Make a Favour
<BR>from start to finish!
<BR> This is a two part class. In this first part, you will dye linen and thread
<BR>using natural dyeing
<BR>methods. After it has dried in the sun, you will learn to embroider your
<BR>initial or design to
<BR>create a personal favour, which you may then present to someone you care
<BR>about. This workshop is
<BR>intended for children, but adults are welcome to participate. Only non-toxic
<BR>dyes will be used
<BR>(beets, onion skins, tea, etc.). You will be dyeing your very own linen
<BR>square in your choice of
<BR>dye to begin your favour!
<BR>

<BR><U>Knife Throwing </U>- (THL Volgaar Thorgulsson)

<BR><U>SCA Heraldry Introduction</U> (2 hours) - (Lord Alleyne Blackburn) A basic intro
<BR>to SCA
<BR>Heraldry for heralds and general populace. Covers the basics of heraldry in
<BR>hopefully easy to
<BR>understand terms. Will give a basic outline of the submission process and
<BR>cover heraldic displays.
<BR>There will be handouts for those attending.
<BR>
<BR><U>Beginning Single and Double Lucent</U> - (Lady Lydia Lijovich of Ragusa) Learn to
<BR>enjoy the
<BR>simple process of creating period cord, which is extremely strong and highly
<BR>functional, with the
<BR>lucet tool! Experience the satisfaction of replacing that ribbon in your
<BR>bodice with a strong, yet
<BR>attractive binding that you have produced yourself! In addition, the double
<BR>lucet will also be
<BR>discussed. Class participants will be able to demonstrate the ability to use
<BR>a single lucet by the
<BR>end of the class. Class fee is $7.00, which includes a lovely cherry wood
<BR>lucet and string to
<BR>produce cord with, as well as hand-outs ($2 if you have your own lucet).
<BR>Double lucets will also
<BR>be available for sale, at an additional cost of $10.00. All proceeds go to
<BR>the Knowne Whorle
<BR>Spinning Guild. Class limited to 12.

<BR><U>Creating a Gypsy Persona</U> - (Lady Kisaiya Zingara) A timeline of Romany
<BR>History and
<BR>costuming ideas.
<BR>
<BR><U>Beginning Rapier</U> (2 hours) - (William Welwyn) An introduction to rapier from
<BR>a period
<BR>perspective. Issues covered include finding a comfortable stance, the
<BR>various methods
<BR>for holding a rapier, movement on the field, and the basic rules for Rapier
<BR>Combat in Atlantia.
<BR> Emphasis will be on developing basics that can be taken home and practiced
<BR>through various
<BR>drills that will be introduced. There will be a handout of rapier terms from
<BR>the Italian fencing
<BR>styles that will be used during instruction. Class limit 10.

<BR>introduction to the
<BR>Society, how to get involved, with a concentration on getting involved in the
<BR>Arts and Sciences.

<BR><U>Drawstring Pouches</U> - (Lady Lina St. Albans) Have you ever wondered where in
<BR>your garb to
<BR>stash all that critically important stuff we all have to carry everywhere we
<BR>go? Have you ever
<BR>needed to give a period gift, but handmade gifts take so much time? Have you
<BR>ever regretted
<BR>that you didn't have a use for some of your lovely scraps of period fabric
<BR>left over from garb-making?
<BR>Here is an answer to all these questions: learn to make (and take with you) a
<BR>simple rectangular
<BR>pouch and a slightly more complex (and period) round pouch. Directions
<BR>provided for lined and
<BR>unlined pouches, with suggestions for sources of materials and uses for the
<BR>finished project.

<BR>create patterns for SCAdian and mundane clothing. Learn to read store bought
<BR>patterns, how to
<BR>enlarge and reduce them; mannequins, the essential helper; all about store
<BR>bought and making
<BR>your own Muslins; making wearable patterns; and basic garb shapes, learning
<BR>about resources
<BR>and more! You might wish to bring a notepad. Muslin is helpful, but not
<BR>required.

<BR><U>So You Want to be a Herald</U> - (Lord Alleyne Blackburn) A general overview of
<BR>the duties and
<BR>requirements for members of the College of Arms. Suggested for any Cornet
<BR>heralds and those
<BR>interested in becoming a herald. Will cover the basics of book, court and
<BR>field heraldry, as well as
<BR>the submission process and how to keep your submitters happy. Bring a
<BR>notebook if you want to
<BR>take notes.

<BR><U>Hidden Mundanities</U> - (Baroness Julianna Fiorentini) Creating the ambiance of
<BR>the Middle Ages
<BR>takes more than putting on funny clothes. Learn how to make fabric covers to
<BR>hide those ghastly
<BR>mundane items - coolers, chairs, water bottles, even tiki torches! We will
<BR>discuss the basic
<BR>geometry of different items, and how that translates into fabric, and I will
<BR>demonstrate how to
<BR>make a chair cover. If you wish, you may bring an item that you've been
<BR>wanting to cover for a
<BR>long time, but just don't know how! Bring fabric and a tape measure, and we
<BR>will do yours as time
<BR>allows.
<BR>
<BR><U>Scribing Under Pressure</U> - (Lady Brigh ingen Erinaugh) A discussion of the
<BR>tips and tricks of
<BR>getting those scrolls done in a pinch without burning the candle at both
<BR>ends. Class limit is 15.
<BR>Class fee is $1.00 for handout.

<BR><U>Introduction to Medieval Poetry</U> - (Master Bran Trefonnen) The Middle Ages
<BR>featured a wide
<BR>variety of poetic voices almost all of which changed the face of western
<BR>literature. Contrary to
<BR>what you may think, this poetry is very accessible to modern readers and can
<BR>be deeply
<BR>appreciated.
<BR>
<BR><U>Embroidery for Absolute Beginners</U> - (Lady Lina St. Albans) If you want to get
<BR>started in
<BR>embroidery but haven't known where to begin, this class is for you. Learn
<BR>half a dozen basic
<BR>period stitches, and gain some information and insight on period thread,
<BR>fabric, and design
<BR>elements. Class limit 8. No fee or $3.00 if you wish to keep the needle and
<BR>hoop.

<BR><U>Learning to Spin with a Drop Spindle</U> (2 hours) - (Lady Siobhan nic
