Noble Friends,
While this isn't within the SCA's official period, the discovery of
d'Artagnan's grave in a church at Maastricht in the Netherlands, might
still be of interest to many of us.
D'artagnan was a very real person, and probably every bit the hero that
Dumas made him out to be. He was killed in 1673 by a musket ball to the
throat during the Siege of Maastricht. [IIRC, in an envoi to one of the
Musketeer novels, Dumas has him die of a cannon shot just after receiving
his treasured marshal baton; sorry I can't remember which book -- I them
read some 40 years ago.]
The story is found at https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm2rew2dgzzo .
