Noble Friends, Especially our Bards,

Lady Sarah Sinclair stumbled onto a website from the English Folk Project
which includes the audio with on-screen text to a number of classic English
folk songs: https://music.youtube.com/channel/UCP3PtI6aHlL0WlNRCYxbajw .
There are many more than those initially presented at the above link.

Of chief interest to us is "Sumer is Icumen In" which includes both the
middle English and modern English texts. Great for learning this SCA
favorite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMCPFA_s0TI . Also note the
charming medieval house in the background.

Other choices include "Oak, Ash and Thorn", "John Barleycorn Must Die" and
"High Germany", though these are certainly post-SCA period. The latter two
were of particular interest to me because their motifs were used in Ralph
Waughan Williams' "English Folk Song Suite", one of my favorite orchestral
music pieces.

Another rendering of "Sumer is Icumen In" is found during the spinning
sequence of the delightful short film "The Luttrell Psalter -- A Year in a
Medieval English Village", found at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myRNKk0-63A . I have raved about this film
before (so please pardon me!), but if you haven't seen it, do watch the
whole piece.

Yours Aye,

business.
