Noble Friends,

March 1 is the feast day of Saint David, or Saint Dewi as he is known
locally, the patron saint of Wales. Unlike some other patron saints whose
importance is largely forgotten, Saint David remains an important figure in
Welsh culture and identity. Scadians with Welsh personas might want to know
a bit about this important historical figure.

BBC is offering a brief biography of the saint. In addition to the usual
saintly miracles, the piece includes some interesting historical nuggets:

More about Saint David can be found on Wikipedia at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_David .

Saint David also figures in Scottish church history. He is said to have
sheltered Glasgow's founder and patron, Saint Kentigern, during his exile
from Welsh-speaking Strathclyde during persecution by a pagan king,
possibly Morcant.
