Noble friends, especially fellow Scots,
On this date in 1329 King of Scots Robert I (aka Robert the Bruce, ruled
1306-1329) died of natural causes at his estate in Cardross.
Robert the Bruce was one of Scotland's greatest kings, having redeemed his
nation's independence from England after years of warfare. He was also
controversial, having several times served Edward I of England, and having
killed his greatest rival, John Comyn, during a parlay in 1306.
His complex life is summarized here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_the_Bruce .
I just raised our Scottish flag in front of Mallard lodge to honor his
memory.
