Today's History Blog reports on the discovery of a small 10th century
Christian wheel cross that perfectly matches a previously discovered mold.
The object was found in Western Havelland in the German state of
Brandenburg. Researchers noted its similarity to a mold found in 1983 in
Spandau. The two pieces turned out to be a precise fit.
The two items represent Christianization of pagan tribes on the frontier
area of the East Frankish kingdom around present-day Berlin. Curiously, the
area remained largely pagan until the 12th-13th centuries.
