Noble Friends, especially Vikings,
Today the History Blog is offering a brief piece on an inscribed Viking-era
ring.
The piece dates to between the 8th and 10th centuries. It is made of gilded
silver, and has a mysterious runic inscription. Because of missing
characters (and context) there are a number of possible meanings. Surviving
inscribed Viking rings are quite rare in England, so this item has special
significance.
The ring, or . . . uh . . . bling, was found in Linconshire by a metal
detectorist in 2024. It has just been declared as treasure, and will now be
valued.
