Noble Friends,

Recently the BBC reported on the computer facial reconstruction from a
900-year old skull.

The skull was discovered in a cemetery during flood management work in
Kendal, England. It was from one of 14 the burials uncovered in an old
churchyard, and the only skull that was complete enough to scan for the
reconstruction.

The woman, currently known as "The Kendal Woman" died when she was about 50
years old. Analysis of her teeth and bone tissue confirm that she had a
poor diet deficient in fish or animal protein, and had a hard life of
physical labor. Her burial was apparently without a casket. In short, she
was probably a typical poor 11-12th century commoner.

The researchers are hoping to rebury all the recovered remains in the
church cemetery. Meanwhile, Kendal residents are being asked to restore her
dignity by choosing a name for the lady.
