Noble Friends,

Yesterday the History Blog posted a story about what may be the oldest
surviving book produced in Norway. And what a unique book this is!

The probable-13th century volume is a small book of songs for various
saints' feast days. Its eight surviving leaves are calfskin parchment. What
makes the book especially unusual is the binding, which is sealskin with
the hair intact.

The book was privately held for generations until donated to the National
Library of Norway.

See the book at https://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/74584 .
