[MR] Rare 11th C. Sword from the Netherlands

Noble friends,

Yesterday the History Blog reported on a medieval sword from the
Netherlands that has just been added to the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden
collection  in Leiden.

The sword was discovered in 2024 during construction in Montfoort.

The weapon is typical of Frankish swords crafted between 1050 and 1150, and
is similar to other blades found in western Europe. It is about 39 inches
long with a brazilnut pommel. The sword is rather light, and is speculated
to have been very easy to wield. Bronze inlays are visible on the blade
below the crossguards.
