Normally I don't post "double-headers", but an item in today's "Did you
Know ..." column on Wikipedia was too . . . well . . . tasty to pass up.
It concerns the art of tyromancy, that is, telling fortunes with cheese.
Yes, you read that correctly -- cheese. Apparently this dates to the
classical period, but was a popular "art" in the middle ages as well. Since
so many households kept dairy animals and made their own cheese, it seems
quite natural. Clues were found in the texture in a manner not unlike
reading tea leaves, but also through the smell and taste of the cheese.
Imagine using gorgonzola: "I predict old socks in your future."
