Noble Friends,

The mason who carved the larger of the famous Danish Jelling rune stones
has been identified.

Scientific analysis of the chisel angle and strokes has linked the larger
of the two Jelling stones to the nearby Læborg stone, which was helpfully
signed by a mason named Ravnunge-Tue. He also signed another stone at Bække.

The Jelling stone was erected by the Danish-Norwegian king Harald Bluetooth
(ca. 911-985 CE). The inscription honors his parents, King of Denmark Gorm
the Old and his queen, Thyra of Jelling. Harald couldn't resist tooting his
own horn, and claims to have Christianized the Danes.

The story is at https://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/68379 .
