Noble Friends,

Today BBC Scotland has an article about an amazing ewer and basin that has
been acquired by the National Museum of Scotland.

The items are elaborately crafted in gilded silver. Such sets were used by
the royalty and the very rich in a ceremonial hand washing with rose water
before meals. Only a dozen or so such sets survive from before 1600. The
two pieces are thought to have been made in London around 1586 by a Dutch
immigrant named Harman Copleman.

The story is found at

Yours Aye,
