Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog reported on the Gideon Tapestries, a set of 11 huge
hangings created for Sir Christopher Hatton in 1578. The set was sold in
1592 to Elizabeth Talbot, Countess of Shrewsbury (aka "Bess of Hardwick"),
the richest woman in England after Queen Elizabeth. They hung in the Long
Gallery at Hardwick Hall until 2001 when the tapestries were removed for
cleaning and conservation. After 22 years the tapestries are back, now
restored to their former glory.
