[MR] Smithsonian: Oldest Carved Runestone Found in Norway

Noble friends,

This past Wednesday numerous news outlets were buzzing with the story of a
2,000 year-old runestone found in a cremation grave in eastern Norway
during 2021.

The wood and human remains in the grave allowed the stone finally to be
carbon dated to between 1 and 250 CE. Although there are other known
archaic runestones and inscribed objects, this is the first to be dated
with any accuracy. Both the runes' style and their language are somewhat
different from later Viking-era inscriptions.
