Noble Friends,

Yesterday's History Blog featured a story on the discovery of a rare iron
folding chair in a circa 600 CE grave in Bavaria.

The chair was found planted at the feet of a high-status woman. It is one
of only six such iron chairs known, and among only 29 of any material from
medieval Europe. These chairs were apparently symbols of status. Curiously,
nearly all such early chairs in Europe were found in women's graves.

The article only shows the chair as found (with a lovely bead). At the
moment, it is just corroded iron in a mess of dirt. From what is visible,
the chair might have looked something like this:

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
