Noble Friends, especially Vikings,

Today's History Blog reports on the discovery of a Thor's Hammer,
*Mjölnir*, amulet
from Ysby in Sweden, the first such item found in this part of Sweden.

The dingus is a bit over one inch long, cast in lead, and with a hole to
allow it to be worn around the neck on a cord or chain. From the photos it
appears to be in excellent condition.

The History Blog article states that *Mjölnir* amulets were worn to show
adherence to the old Norse religion, a sort of religious statement piece as
Christianity was making inroads into Scandinavian culture.

The amulet can be seen at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/65441 .

More on *Mjölnir* amulets is found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mjölnir
.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
