Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog reports on the discovery of 240 medieval graves in
Haverfordwest, Wales. The graves were found under the former Ocky Whites
department store, which is under redevelopment.

The graves mark the location of the Priory of St. Saviours, which had been
lost since its closure during the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry
VIII in 1538. St. Saviours was a Dominican house, which had just eight
members by that time.

Many of the remains being recovered are children. Some adult skeletons show
marks of violence. Haverfordwest was besieged by the Welsh prince Owain Glyndŵr
in 1405 during the last attempt to eject the English from Wales.
