Today Wikipedia's featured photo is of The Alcázar, one of the most iconic
castles in the world.

The site has seen a Roman fort, a Berber Almoravid stronghold, a wooden
medieval castle, and then the stone masterpiece that survives today. The
oldest parts of the current stone castle were built during the reign of
Alfonso VIII, King of Castille, and his queen Eleanor of England in the
late 12th and early 13th centuries. The tall square tower is known as the
King John II Tower after its builder, which was added in the 15th century.
The cute pointy towers with the fairytale roofs were added by Philip II,
King of Spain, in the late 16th century.

Today The Alcázar is one of Spain's greatest architectural treasures. It
functions as a public museum, and an archive for Spain's armed forces.
