Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog has a brief piece describing a rare medieval bone
flute found in Kent, England. It was discovered during an excavation that
included pottery dated from the 12th to 15th centuries.

The flute is described as a duct flute or fipple which would have been
blown through the end, much like a recorder or one of those Fluteopones
kids used to be given in the third grade. It has five finger holes and a
thumb hole. The flute was carved from the tibia of a sheep or goat.

You can see the flute at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/65705 .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
