Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,

Today's History Blog reports on the discovery of a Pictish carved stone
with ogham characters found near Doune in central Scotland.

The stone was found in 2019, but was not excavated until this past
September. Its main feature is a knotted cross, with possible bird motifs
thought to represent the pelican in her piety. It is believed the slab
belonged to a 6th to 8th century monastic community.

The ogham characters are what makes the stone especially unique. Ogham
inscriptions are not uncommon in Ireland, but quite rare in Scotland. The
inscriptions are yet to be deciphered, but hopefully will provide clues
about the spread of Christianity in this part of Scotland.

The story is at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/65621 .

More about ogham is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogham .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
