Noble Friends,

Nostradamus makes the headlines again, despite being dead since 1566!
Yesterday the History Blog reported that a stolen 1555 manuscript
containing his 942 prophecies has been recovered and returned to the
rightful owners.

The book, PROFETIE DI MICHELE NOSTRADAMO, was reported stolen from Rome's
Barnabiti Center for Historical Studies in 2007. It surfaced in a pre-sale
catalog for an art auction in Pforzheim, Germany, with an opening price of
€12,000. Italian art police, who pour over such catalogs, spotted the
listing. Their German counterparts seized the manuscript, and it was
returned to the Barnabiti Center on 4 May.

Despite what you might read while waiting in the supermarket check-out line
(nobody really buys those tabloids, do they?), Nostradamus no longer makes
prophecies. His fans, and the tabloids, simply recycle the old ones to fit
new events. I don't know if Nostradamus would be pleased at his continuing
fame, or horrified at what is being said in his name. (Sigh!)

You can read about the stolen book at

If you would like to know about the real Nostradamus and his works, go to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nostradamus .

For a discussion of how his prophecies are used, or misused, see

Rest in peace, Michel de Nostredame. Please!

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
