Noble Friends,

Yesterday the BBC offered a story on the digitization of numerous medieval
manuscripts from Scottish sources. The collection is available through the
National Library of Scotland, and includes pieces produced in Scotland as
well as imports from continental Europe. Many of these documents are very
rare (for Scotland) Catholic religious texts such as books of hours and
psalters. Few such manuscripts survived the Scottish Reformation when
Catholicism was essentially outlawed in Scotland in favor of the protestant
Kirk of Scotland.

BBC's story is at https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-61298501 .

The National Library of Scotland's page at
https://digital.nls.uk/early-manuscripts/browse/ allows you to browse the
collection by country of origin, or to filter by various subjects. There
are over 200 manuscripts in the collection. Once you have selected a
manuscript, it can be viewed folio by folio, with the option of a
full-screen view.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
