Noble Friends, Especially Vikings:

Now that University is over, I have time to call your attention to a
History Blog post from last week about a rare Viking sword hilt discovered
in Norway.

A piece of the hilt was found by a metal detectorist near Stavanger last
year, and was turned over to a local museum. The rest of the hilt was found
later by the initial finder's friend. Although badly corroded, the pieces
have been reunited for preservation and study.

It is the hilt of a rare Type-D sword, of which only 20 are known in
Norway, and is thought to be about 1200 years old. The hilt end and the
cross-guard ends are shaped to depict animals.

The whole story is at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/64275 .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
