Noble Friends,

Today's History Blog entry is all about ten mysterious charts showing how
the English engaged and defeated the Spanish Armada. They sequentially
begin with the first sighting of the Armada off Cornwall and extend to the
final Battle of Gravelines.

The exquisite maps had been sold at auction last year to an unnamed foreign
buyer. The British government stopped the export of these historical
treasures. Within two months several British institutions had raised the
£600,000 sale price, saving them for the nation. They will be conserved and
eventually displayed at the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

The History Blog story on the maps can be viewed at
http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/60576 .

More about the maps is found at the NMRN site at
