Noble Friends,

Today's History Blog story relates the discovery of a possible
self-portrait in stone depicting a mason in the famous Cathedral of
Campostela de Santiago: http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/59941 .

During an architectural survey, researcher Dr. Jennifer Alexander noticed
the odd capital on a column. Most columns in the church are decorated with
biblical figures or the "usual" fantastic beasties. The columns in the
particular part of the building where the supposed mason was found are
mostly dull off-the-shelf models, but then suddenly this fellow appears
among them. History Blog's creator describes him as resembling the Muppet
scientist Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and in a shrugging posture. You can click on
the rather small image of the figure at the beginning of the article and a
much larger photo will appear..

The Blog post goes on to mention another restoration project at
Campostela de Santiago, the 12th century "Portico of Glory" entrance. There
is a web site dedicated to the Portal at
https://catedraldesantiago.es/en/portico-de-la-gloria/ , and Wikipedia also
offers another page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portico_of_Glory .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
