Today is the traditional death day in 589 of Saint David, the patron saint
of Wales. His feast day is celebrated annually on this date. In the middle
ages, Saint David (or Dewidd) was one of the most important saints in
Britain, so popular that he survived the "normanizing" purge that relegated
many British saints to the dustbin of history. David founded a monastery at
Mynwyn, Wales, now known as St. David's, and the 11th century St. David's
cathedral occupies the site today.

Today the BBC has a brief illustrated piece on Saint David:
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-51649367 .

There is more about the saint on Wikipedia at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_David .

St. David's Cathedral is the smallest in Britain. Wikipedia has a piece on
the church at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Davids_Cathedral . Supposedly
some of his remains are in a shrine in the cathedral, but they have been
carbon dated to the 12th century.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
