Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog reports that all three Queen Elizabeth "Armada"
portraits will be displayed together for the first time. They will be on
show at the Queen's House, Greenwich. The paintings differ in details, and
they will be side-by-side allowing viewers to compare them.

One portrait was owned by Sir Francis Drake, and has for years hung at
Woburn Abbey in less than ideal conditions. The Drake painting was acquired
by the National Maritime Museum and has since undergone extensive
restoration. Video clips of the work accompany the History Blog story at
http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/57859 .

Wikipedia has an interesting history about the Armada portraits at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armada_Portrait .

More information about Queen's House, including the Armada portrait
exhibition, can be found on their site at https://www.rmg.co.uk/queens-house

History of Queen's House itself is at

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
