Noble Friends,
Yesterday the History Blog reported on the discovery of a glass game piece
from excavations at on the holy island of Lindisfarne. The piece apparently
represents the king in an Anglo-Saxon version of the game called "King's
Table", better known from the Viking version "hnefatafl". The piece is
believed to have been part of grave goods from a wealthy Northumbrian
Anglo-Saxon.
The whole story, with views of coins and other goodies from the site, can
be found at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/57805 .
Yours Aye,
Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
