Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,

Here is a story that is new to me. On this date in 1424 Princess Margaret
Stewart was born to James I, King of Scots, and his English-born Queen,
Joan Beaufort.

At the age of 11, Margaret was married to Louis, Dauphin of France (later
Louis IX, the "Universal Spider"). The match, like most royal marriages of
the time, was arranged for diplomatic purposes. In this case it was to
cement Scotland's support of France during the Hundred Years Wars.

Apparently Margaret and Louis despised each other. Good taste on her part.
Louis was one of the most ruthless rulers of history, making him also one
of France's more successful kings. Poor Margaret was lonely and miserable.
She succumbed to a fever in 1445 at the age of just 20.

Here is Margaret's sad story:

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
