Noble Friends,

Yesterday the History Blog reported that a previously unidentified portrait
depicted Mary Boleyn, one of Henry VIII's many mistresses, and older sister
to the ill-fated Queen Anne Boleyn.

The portrait is one of a group of 14 17th century paintings (known as "The
Beauties") in the British Royal Collection attributed to the Flemish artist
Remigius van Leemput. Leemput was well-known as a painter to the English
aristocracy. The Mary Boleyn portrait is apparently a copy of a now-lost
16th century original.

Today the painting is displayed in Mary Queen of Scots' bedroom at the
Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh:

More about Mary Boleyn is found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Boleyn
.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
